Sibelga’s teams oversee the electricity (6,540 km) and natural gas (2,938 km) networks on a daily basis; they maintain and modernise them to meet new energy consumption patterns, ensure everyone’s safety and prepare for the future of heating. In 2025, no fewer than 330 worksites were carried out on the electricity network, the equivalent of 105 km of trenches dug to lay 150 km of power cables. We have also achieved a key milestone in terms of network observability: we have launched PowerOn BT, our innovative digital tool for real-time management of the low-voltage electricity network.

Nearly 45%
of 90,798

lighting points converted to LEDs

In 2025, 12,470 additional lighting points were converted, generating 11% energy savings compared with 2024. In total, almost 45% of the 90,798 luminaires in the public street lighting network are now equipped with LEDs, with the aim of reaching 100% by 2030. During the conversion work, Sibelga systematically installs an intelligent lighting system, capable of sending and receiving information from each luminaire, adapting light intensity as required (dimming), and signalling any malfunctions.

In an energy landscape undergoing profound change – marked both by the growth of renewable energy, its intermittent nature and the emergence of new highly electrified uses such as mobility and heating – Sibelga is implementing a development plan to meet the current and future needs of all its customers. In 2025, €116 million has been invested in developing the electricity network and maintaining the gas network.

of heating network being rolled out in Neder-Over-Heembeek

Decarbonising heating by 2050 is one of the major challenges of the energy transition in Brussels, where a large majority of buildings are still heated with natural gas. In this context, the City of Brussels, Brussels Energy and Sibelga are continuing to develop the Neder-Over-Heembeek heating network, based on the recovery of residual heat from the regional incinerator: of the 3.7 km planned, 1.5 km of pipes were laid in 2025, with a view to gradually connecting public buildings by the end of 2027. At the same time, Sibelga is also a partner in the Be.SHARE project, a 5th generation low-carbon heating and cooling network validated in 2025, which aims to harness the renewable energies available in the Northern Quarter to supply social housing and offices from 2028.

Certified Top Employer for 15 years, Sibelga can count on the expertise and daily commitment of its 1,200 Energizers, of whom 206 were recruited in 2025, to meet the energy challenges of today and tomorrow. To stand out in a labour market facing a severe talent shortage, particularly in technical and digital professions, Sibelga is multiplying its Employer Branding initiatives to strengthen its visibility. It has notably developed partnerships with around twenty technical schools.

    smart meters installed

    A cornerstone of the energy transition, smart meters electronically record daily electricity consumption and injection, store this data and, if the customer agrees, transmit it remotely to the distribution network operator. By 2025, an additional 72,000 smart meters had been installed. Since June 2025, customers have been able to choose to share their consumption data solely with Sibelga, giving them access to quarter-hourly consumption details via the My Sibelga application, while only their monthly data is sent to their supplier. They can also opt to share more of their data with their supplier, opening up access to new services such as energy sharing, monthly billing and dynamic pricing. The aim is to equip 80% of the low-voltage meter fleet by the end of 2030.

    on-street public charging points for electric mobility

    The Region has entrusted Sibelga with the task of facilitating and coordinating the roll-out of a public network of charging points for electric vehicles, with the aim of achieving a total of 22,000 publicly accessible charging points by 2035, including 11,000 on-street charging points. In 2025, more than 850 new charging points were commissioned in locations where charging station usage is highest.

    Brussels residents share renewable electricity

    Energy sharing is growing fast: in just one year, the number of participants has almost doubled, reaching 2,790 at the end of December 2025, spread across 297 projects representing a total production capacity of 30 MWp. Authorised in Brussels since 2022, energy sharing allows one or more local producers of renewable electricity to share their energy with one or more consumers.

    To achieve the ambitious goal of making public buildings carbon-neutral by 2040, regional, local and community authorities can apply to Sibelga for comprehensive support under the RenoClick programme. Today, 66 public authorities use this one-stop renovation shop for their sustainable renovation projects in schools, nurseries, offices, sports and cultural centres, libraries, police stations, nursing homes, etc.

    visits to the reception desk

    Sibelga makes a point of being accessible and inclusive. Residential customers can not only call us at the Contact Centre, but also write to us or come and see us: our reception desk, which receives around 7,000 visits a year, enables people who are less comfortable with digital tools or the telephone to obtain information and support, thereby helping to reduce the digital divide. In addition, more than 10,000 protected customers are supplied with energy by Sibelga.
